Press Release from Lafourche Parish government:

Due to the projected path of Tropical Storm Gustav, Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph has
declared a State of Emergency for the Parish of Lafourche, effective at 7:00 A.M. this morning, Friday,
August 29, 2008. Lafourche Parish Government has fully activated its Emergency Operations Center in
Raceland.
After meeting with state and local officials, President Randolph has also announced the evacuation
schedule for Lafourche Parish:
♦ A RECOMMENDED EVACUATION will be issued at 4:00 P.M. today (Friday) for the area
South of the Leon Theriot Floodgates in Golden Meadow.
♦ A MANDATORY EVACUATION will be issued at 9:00 A.M. Saturday for the area South of
the Leon Theriot Floodgates in Golden Meadow
♦ A MANDATORY EVACUATION will be issued at 3:00 P.M. Saturday for the ENTIRE Parish
of Lafourche.
At this time, NO shelters will be opened in Lafourche Parish since Gustav is forecast to affect
Lafourche Parish as a Category 3 Hurricane. There will be no shelters or marshalling points open
during the recommended evacuation. Residents evacuating during that time must have their own
transportation and will not be provided shelter in Lafourche Parish. The State will release a toll-free
telephone number for shelter information at some point before our recommended evacuation today.
“We wanted to let the public know our plans as soon as possible,” said President Randolph. “This will
give everyone the opportunity to finalize their plans today and allow some people to leave early as
well.”
Tropical Storm force winds are expected to start affecting our area during the early morning hours of
Monday, September 1 with the eye of the storm making landfall during the early morning hours on
Tuesday, September 2.

A decision has not been made yet as to whether LSUHSC would be closed at any time next week.

LSU kickoff moved to 10 a.m.

The approach of Hurricane Gustav has prompted Louisiana State University to move up the kickoff for tomorrow's season-opening football game against Appalachian State to 10 a.m., a university spokesman said Friday.

All schools and offices of the Lafourche Parish School Board will be closed on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

All school related activities (professional development, open houses, athletics, etc.) scheduled next week, September 1 – 5, are postponed until further notice.

Additionally, please note that due to their evacuation plans, the Parish Council has also asked that we cancel all athletic events scheduled for tonight. (Friday)

Due to the uncertainty of the storm’s path and impact, The Lafourche Parish School Board will continue to work with the Parish Council in determining any future closing of schools.

Schools:

* ALL ARCHDIOCESE SCHOOLS CLOSED TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
* All Orleans Parish traditional and charter schools will have a full day today, but will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Orleans Parish Public Schools This includes Ben Franklin Elementary, Bethune Elementary, McMain Senior HIgh, McDonogh 35, P.M. High School, Audobon Charter, Warren Easton High, Eienstein Charter, Franklin Senior High, Harte Elementary, Hynes Elementary, Karr Senior High, Lake Forest Elementary, Lusher Elementary & High, Moton Elementary, New Orleans Science & Math and Priestly Charter.
* St. Tammany Parish public schools are CLOSED Tuesday, Sept. 2
* Abeona House pre-school is closed Friday
* Belle Chasse Academy is closed Friday, reopening scheduled for Sept. 4.

I know this closing is not as important as others may be, but I will pass it n anyways. My fiance who is the Shop Foreman at the Saturn of New Orleans on Lapalco, said that dealership, parts department, and service department, will close at C O B this evening and will not re-open until further notice.

Voluntary Evacuation for Grand Isle, Jean Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria

Event: Tropical Storm Gustav - Advisory 3

Time: 1:54 p.m.

VOLUNTARY EVACUATION

A voluntary evacuation for Grand Isle will begin at 4 p.m. today, Friday, August 29, 2008

Voluntary evacuation of Jean Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria and areas outside of the levee protection system will begin tomorrow at noon, Saturday, August 30, 2008

For residents needing assistance to evacuate Jean Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria and areas outside of the levee protection system, a bus will be available at Jean Lafitte Town Hall, 2654 Jean Lafitte Boulevard at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008. These evacuees will be part of the publicly assisted evacuation plan. They will be brought to a Parish Processing Point (PPP). Upon arrival at the PPP evacuees will be processed by the State and transported to shelters located outside the disaster impact area. Any pets brought to the PPP will be identified and transported in a separate vehicle to a safe shelter.

Jefferson Parish law enforcement agencies and the National Guard will be patrolling throughout the parish to protect the property of citizens while they are away. These agencies will have a strong presence and those who don’t evacuate may be questioned by law enforcement about their activities.

Residents who evacuate are asked not to leave garbage or trash curbside for pickup because collection service may be suspended due to the storm. These items could present a problem in clogging drains and may become projectiles in high winds.

Non-essential Parish Offices and Activities to Close

Indefinitely at End of Day, Aug. 29, 2008

Event: Tropical Storm Gustav - Advisory 4

Time: 2:17 p.m.

Non-essential Jefferson Parish activities and facilities, such as parks, playgrounds and libraries, will suspend operations indefinitely at the end of the day today, Aug. 29, 2008, at their normal closing times. Events scheduled through today and this evening will proceed as planned.

Jefferson Transit (JeT) buses will change operations as of midnight tonight so that the parish transit buses can prepare for their role in the publicly assisted evacuation.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, the buses will run their normal routes and stop at all established bus stops to pick up those residents who have no other means to evacuate the parish.

On Saturday and continuing throughout the publicly assisted evacuation, JeT buses will take all passengers to one of the two Parish Processing Points, the Joseph S. Yenni Building in Elmwood on the East Bank or the John Alario Events Center in Westwego on the West Bank. Once there, passengers will be transferred to buses provided by the state to be taken to an emergency evacuation shelter out of the area.
