Jeff Corwin of 'Animal Planet'Jeff Corwin, conservationist and host of "Animal Planet," will kick off the University of New Orleans free speaker series, UNO Horizons: Speakers Helping Us See Tomorrow Today, on Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m. at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
UNO Horizons, which will continue to feature internationally known speakers, is part of UNO"s 50th Anniversary celebration and marks the post-Katrina recovery of the UNO Lakefront Arena.
Emmy winner Corwin has been working toward the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the world since he was a teenager. He is best known as host of the television show "Animal Planet" which reaches more than 13 million viewers in more than 70 countries worldwide.
Since 2000, Corwin has partnered with "Animal Planet" and Discovery Communications as host and executive producer of "The Jeff Corwin Experience." His first book, "Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World," is now available in paperback, and his newest television show, "Into the West," will explore the American West and its wildlife.
Corwin's philosophy is that education and awareness of the natural resources, wildlife and ecosystems of the planet is the path to conserving the planet for future generations.
People magazine chose Corwin among "50 Most Beautiful People" and Entertainment Weekly has included Corwin on its "It List."
Corwin made a guest appearance as himself on "CSI Miami" in 2003. He has also appeared on the "Today" show, "Good Morning America," "CBS This Morning," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Access Hollywood" and "Oprah."
In 2004, Corwin won an Emmy for best performer in a children's series. He recently hosted a series of CNN specials with Anderson Cooper titled "Planet in Peril," and continues to appear on CNN to discuss the problems facing the environment.
