Well that is three in a row for King GFS. I noticed that for long range the Euro has been good, remember last week the Euro was forecasting LA to get hit, but within 5 days I think GFS has been the model to go by.
Just estimated based on the last fix of its LLC position earlier this morning and where they found the LLC just a few minutes ago, it shows that Isaac has been moving at around 285 deg WNW but it has slowed down just a tad, down to around 16 mph.
To all those who are even considering staying. This storm is still just a T/S but could intensify quickly as any storm can in the GOM. Additionally, even if the NHC was forecasting a Mississippi landfall it just takes a little jug to the west to put it over southeast LA.
Now taking the above into account, even if you are in area not prone to tidal surge or flooding, keep in mind that what ever area takes the hit can possibly be without power for a week if not longer. You will have no access to stores/gas because everything will be closed. You will have very limited emergency services (Police/Fire/EMS and hospitals).
Even if you have stocked up on supplies and have access to a generator do you really want to put yourself and your family in the situation that should a medical or other emergency occur, that you will not have these other services?
I have been in law enforcement for 24 years so I am required to stay. But I always send my wife and children away just because of these reasons. And if I wasn't in law enforcement I would be leaving with them.
If you have the ability, please evacuate. Take it from someone who has been here through all of them since 1989.
I would definitely evacuate red, but we can only leave if it's mandatory bc of work... The minute our parish says go, we will. I think that people who stay- no offense- but you put the lives of first responders who do stay behind at risk. Just because you didn't see any significant problems during Cindy or Gustav doesn't mean you won't during Isaac. If a tornado hits your home- which is especially likely on the eastern side of the storm, who is going to have to come rescue your stubborn butt?! Plus with all the uncertainty regarding both the track and the strength, why take those chances? By no means am I trying to stir up trouble, it's just something I consider having plenty friends in law enforcement etc.
