I know a few of us have weather stations here. Also some of us LOVE sharing our weather observations. Many years ago, a friend of mine in Maryland developed this little program called "WxSpots". Interest has come and gone, but I'm trying to bring it back to life. We've dwindled all the way down to about 10 people online across the country, but a little while ago, we were back up to 24 online. A couple years ago, we were around 100 online.
What WxSpots is, is a way to share your local weather observations in a non-standard format to others on the program. You do not have to be a trained spotter to use it, but still, accuracy is the key. It's a fun way to communicate between weather enthusiasts. I've been a part of it for years, and have recently taken over the server that's running the program. The more people we have on it, the more fun it is and the more useful it becomes.
What I've been asking people is to run it and KEEP it running. Even though you're not around, all you have to do is hit the "minimize to taskbar" button and it'll sit down in your task bar not bothering anyone. This way the overall usage numbers keep growing and as others log in, they'll see higher numbers making them want to stay online as well.
I've been relaying National reports into the "quick chat" area to keep things a little active. I also post any LA reports in the Report section at the top, as well as post my current conditions from my weather station every hour or so.
Give it a try and see how you like it. In the two images below, I highlight the neat feature of having your weather station connected. The top shows me using one of my station's images, and the bottom, how to add your station data.
