Across interior southeastern Mississippi, southwestern Alabama and the westernmost Florida Panhandle, patches of ice on the roadways will continue to be a hazard through at least Friday morning.
*What?...Some areas of ice did not melt completely today and residual water will likely refreeze with the cold temperatures tonight. Ice can be hard to identify on roadways until you have already driven over it. Patches of ice will linger on the roadways, especially bridges, overpasses and on roads sheltered from the sun.
*When and Where?...Patches of ice will linger through at least Friday morning and possibly into Friday night, mainly north of I-10 and especially along and north of Highway 84. Inland county emergency managers have confirmed the ice on roads. So, slow down and use extra precaution if you must drive!
In general, those areas that received the most snowmelt and freezing rain, which is generally over interior sections of southern Alabama and southeastern Mississippi, will continue experiencing patches of ice the longest, meaning over the next several nights.
In shaded areas, ice will likely persist during the heat of the day Friday afternoon and into Friday night north of the Highway 84 Corridor. /DVB
Came home last night from Houston, because it was a cloudy day yesterday in Houston there was still ice/snow on portions of roof tops and shady grass areas in the afternoon. Yesterday my area neighborhood wunderground station reported a low of 27 degrees, the coldest since Dec 2010! My tropical plants took a beating from the 6 hrs of subfreezing temps but thankfully my guava and Mango tree's damage looks to be mainly to the foliage, my Fox Tail Palm tree looks like it was torched, it is not as cold hardy as the queen palms.

I still have ice here around the yard and on the driveway and sidewalk. With temps getting into the 50's today, I'm thinking that should finally all melt away.

We also still have ice on the ground and on covers in northeast Brazoria County, Tx. We saw 20 on Tuesday morning. It was hard on the plants! Not sure anything we covered survived yet, and since it started snowing/sleeting almost immediately at the start of this cold spell, we couldn't get out and cover the citrus trees (they're big enough we start by spreading covers out from the roof of our garage). I hope just being on the south side of the garage spared them.
Haven't been able to check the plants we moved into the greenhouse and tool shed, but we had heaters in there ,so fingers crossed. We lost water in our kitchen for a few hours on Tuesday morning, but it eventually started flowing again after about noon. We've seen no evidence of busted pipes yet, but everything's not thawed out yet.
It also looks like one of the resident hummingbirds we've had all winter didn't make it through the Wednesday night freeze. It's been a rough week!
