Still no power on the WB of SCP. Cell service was quite limited until just a little bit ago and still having trouble sending texts. No major damage, just a MESS.

I will say I’m aggravated with SCPPS. Had they not pushed the issue of us possibly having school today and not making the call until 4:30 yesterday, I’d have left. I feel a certain kind of way about it for sure. I was home alone (husband in Michigan) and would’ve happily left, and my husband would’ve preferred I left as well. I get it, it’s a no win situation; they’ve called school off 4 other times for nothing.

I’m over this year. And I wish I believed 2021 would be different, but I don’t see it being any better...

In reality there really aren't that many official weather stations in the US..... Certainly not Louisiana. Data is gathered from other sources obviously, but the location and setting is completely unregulated. Some are high in buildings, offshore platforms. AWOS airport stations have some oversee, but they are located in open areas and often the anemometer is often quite high.
Some are from folks like you and I with personal weather stations... Mine for example is sheltered in my backyard and has never recorded a wind over 20mph... Regardless of the tree top winds.

So big grain of salt with these numbers....many make sense....many don't. I don't live on top of a building, 100+ feet on an offshore platform, on a tall pole at the foot of the causeway, etc.

I would LOVE it if we had a regulated system of reporting stations in a grid fashion every so many miles.... Maybe every 50 in a grid? But it isn't going to happen. Since the NWS is a federal agency, I don't see it ever getting funded for anything close to such a system.

We have a total of 11 official NWS stations in the whole state! That's it! 11.

I use a few of the free internet PWS hosting sites of which my station is a part. I use it for location of fronts, rainfall totals, general temperatures and trends, few point drops, etc. One thing I don't rely on them for in any fashion is the wind speed.

Still no power. It’s all good. I cooked dinner on my camp stove in the garage with the garage door up and it was lovely. Thanks sincerely to all of you for updates, for supporting each other, and for helping all of us get through this storm. Gotta tell ya- don’t wanna go through this intense a storm again.

Yesterday, as the storm was approaching, a little after 3:00PM, David posted a graphic, that raised eyebrows. It caught my attention, and a few on the forum, discussed it around page 131-133 or so. Basically, it had something like a "chance of destruction", and almost everything, west of the eye, was at or near 0%! Well, that really turned out, pretty accurate. For example, there is a world of difference, between damage between Covington (very little), to Slidell (pretty extensive), with only about 20 miles separation. Just my casual observation, in the easy chair of casual glances.

We got ours back, in Covington (between downtown and Abita Springs), about an hour ago. With the beautiful day today, it wasn't bad at all. Thankful to have it back on.

This is also true. I looked at it more and it showed that it was 5:05 when it recorded the 53mph. So it makes sense that it didn't actually get the highest winds.

I agree. The porch and part of the roof of my friend's house was ripped off in Galliano. My cousin who lives in Larose told me that it's a mess "down the bayou" with lots of damage.

I can add to that. Comparing East Houma to Cocodrie. Houma seemed to do well, just a lot of spotty power outages. Cocodrie got pretty banged up from the photos I’ve seen.

Supposedly the resident filled a generator while it was running. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Not familiar with that but yeah I thought if it were to be done it would be associated with a university and on a local scale.

I've stated before... Even if people occasionally gripe about a local forecast, there isn't an outroar to move politics and money to make it any better as far as data collection goes. As a science based person I would love to have that. I've even though of adding sensors to my station to look at temps all over my yard out of curiosity. Near the ground, soil temp, under a tree, etc., To see how my micro environment affects temperature. Yeah I am full on nerd for that I guess.
