I'm having a little bit of a hard time processing this: at 7:00 a.m. this morning it was at 100 mph and sucking in some dry air on its eastern side.

Since then the intensity has increased 40 mph in about 12 hours. I mean wow.

About 3 - 4 hours for the eye wall, another 1/2 hour for the “center” of the eye to cross land. (Midnight to 1am edt) Easy to estimate from radar at this point

Edit - not a met, but anyone with access to a radar can do the simple math.

Not riding any of my forum family here BUT how many times do we all have to hear that NHC intensity forecast skill is still lacking? Yes, some of the comments are simply in awe and I get it. I, like everyone else here, long for the day when we know days before what intensity we’ll be staring down. These damn things are just SO complicated! And I’m also amazed at how they are all the same yet so different. Don’t know if the back eyewall is open or the attenuation is blocking. Does remind me of Francine a bit. I do fear there will wind up being some loss of life here.

My aunt lives in Tallahassee. She'll be staying for the storm. I'm thankful the storm will be passing to her east. Praying for those in the path of Helene in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas tonight and tomorrow.
