While we're in a tropical lull (hey, who's complaining? ), let's chat a bit about our favorite restaurants. We like to eat out occasionally and we like trying new things but hate being dissappointed. List a few of your favorite restaurants in categories like Chinese, Steakhouse, Seafood, etc.
Chinese food: My #1 pick has always been China Doll on Manhatten in Harvey. P.F. Changs comes in a close second. Chinese food is a big weakness for me.
Steakhouse: Lonestar steakhouse's Texas ribeye. Yummy! (do not recc. to eat this often though, 88g of fat, YIKES!
Seafood: in SELA, we definitely have lots of great seafood restaurants and it's very hard to pick just one but for us, we like to go to Kevin's on the Amite River in Head of Island (about 40 minutes from us) or Middendorf's in Manchac. Mike Anderson's in Gonzales is a close 3rd.
Mexican: Oh I love mexican food! My favorite thing is steak fajitas and their salsa, so that is what I judge them on. A little hole in the wall in Walker called Sombrero's wins that one. Excellent food for very little $$. (although to be fair, I've not eaten at many mexican restaurants in the NOLA area, that's usually a seafood must do)
Oh and I want to share a funny with yall. When we were on our vacation in Wymoming/Montana/Colorado in July, we went into this restaurant called Aspen Steakhouse in Rawlins WY. We right away saw that from the decor and menu that they were pushing a "Louisiana" theme. The inside was done in an old southern style and the menu had things like Blackened Cajun ribeye (dh ordered this and it was nasty!). Looking at the menu, another thing said "Baton Rouge Shrimp, straight from Baton Rouge). ;D I couldn't help it, I had to ask the waiter about this one. He assured me that it was a great dish with shrimp caught in Baton Rouge. Huh??? Since when are they catching shrimp in Baton Rouge. Who are they trying to fool, although the people up there probably don't know any better.
