Zack, what are the chances of this system moving further west for landfall? I know it’s early but just curious how certain is the current cone. I live in Houma and any landfall to our east would be good.

Since this storm will pass over the loop current and have a favorable upper level environment, could we see another Harvey situation.  I remember Harvey was not expected to reach but minimum hurricane strength but it rapidly intensified in just 12 hours from a depression to an 85 mph hurricane.  This is a nightmare scenario that pundits have spoke about for years in the New Orleans area.  Rapidly intensifying system approaching from the SE moving NW or WNW right up the mouth of the river.  There is no way the city would be able to evacuate some 1 million people in less than 48 hours.

What are some things we need to watch in the coming 48 hours that may or may not play out for rapid intensification?
