TROPICAL DEPRESSION FLORENCE Discussion Thread

It's a bit discouraging how people who prepare for storms like this only focus on a subset of potential hazards. For the classmate, I would suggest to them the most important supplies for them may not be food, water or a generator but instead life preservers, something that floats such as a boat that won't capsize in 100 mph winds, an axe, something to protect themselves from all the critters (including floating mounds of ants) that would be swimming also attempting to save their lives and a Sharpie to write their names / social security numbers on their arms in the event someone finds their body floating along. And why is it that people in harms way don't think about the dozens of tornadoes that accompany a land-falling hurricane until it rips their roof off?
