Idalia can see now... her eye is almost completely open. It's said to be 12 nm wide, borderline pinhole. A pinhole eye is defined as

I spent a little time in the swaniey (sp) river. Went in for fuel and rest. The tide went out and we were stuck for a bunch of days. Nothing was open. It was fun for a day or two, after that it sucks. Lots of wildlife, big gator etc. We dragged bottom the whole way out, very shallow. Few people that time of year. So happy to get out. Not sure what a 10 ft surge would do

Officially getting that creepy pre-landfall feeling for Florida now. This is going to be a monster, much like the last few gulf coast hurricanes that hit Louisiana. Yet another I storm name that will be retired. Prayers to those in its way, both along the coast and inland.

I have no luck posting photos, but the presentation on ktbw radar via RadarScope is frightening. Shows some lightning in the eyewall and even illuminates west side convection at 175 miles + (22,000 ft beam height!).

Thankfully it doesn't have enough time to make it down to 900mb but it will certainly try with such a compact core.
