I mean this in the most respectful way possible. However, am I the only one bothered by models being shown this far in advance? Yeah, it's good to let people know that there may be some mischief soon. But as far as showing the gfs and euro, well over a week in advance just seems unprofessional to me and also leads to fearmongering. Maybe Im wrong to feel this way? I dont mean to post this to stir trouble. Just more of a viewpoint than anything.
I would never post the GFS out 10+ days on social media or show it on TV. But this is a weather world and we dissect everything. Now as StormCast has grown over the years, maybe I should take a different approach because so many eyes are on this forum without the understanding that we're all weather nerds talking weather.
I had someone copy a post of mine on this forum during Francine and tweet it saying I was excited because the HRRR/GRAF were turning out to be right. No, I wasn't excited but it was good to see the hi-res models pick up on those short-term trend.
Unfortunately, the only option for me is to tone back how much I post here because the context is so easily misconstrued from me talking to a weather community or talking in real forecasting terms.
Zack, I don't recall you baring your soul quite like this before. I admire that. I'm sure you understand that posting thoughts on social media is different from doing your forecast because here people don't pick up on body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice.
I go back to what my former boss told me: "If your decisions are based on data and they are based on the best interests of the people you serve, then you can sleep at night, no matter who you piss off." Posting models and giving the possibilities is data; it's also in the best interests of everyone on the Gulf Coast. Yes, there is a ton of anxiety in the air this season, but the best antidote for anxiety is preparation and then living in the moment, letting go of what you can't control in this moment. I hope you feel free to post what's on your mind in the future; that's up to you. I do pray you do not let fear of what others may think guide your decisions if you believe in your soul it's in their best interests to know.
