As some of you already know, a few of us have made plans to go storm chasing across
the Great Plains this coming May. Since posting a reply to a message a couple nights
ago, I've gotten tons of PMs regarding this trip. This made me decide to post this
message.
We already have 4 confirmed attendees including Zack
and myself. We are thinking about having a 5th person join the chase. If we stick with
4, that 5th person will be a backup in case one of the members of the team needs to
drop out for some reason.
Here are the details:
If you are interested in attending as the 5th person, or would like to be added to the backup
list, please respond to this message. Quoting is not neccessary. Also, if you're
adding your name, please express how "likely" you are to attend if chosen (if you'd need
to take off of work, school, etc., if you're not sure you'll have enough financial
backup, etc....just think of things that may affect your ability to attend or increase
your likely hood of attending)
Just to add, we will have laptops with wireless broadband, radar connectivity, all the
online tools we need, anemometers, strobe light, and shirts for the chase. We will
also likely have to carry our luggage in the van with us at all times so be sure you
know how to pack lightly for a week.

- Departing the New Orleans area approximately 1:00am, Monday, May 12th.
If there is no action on May 12, we'll likely drive to Norman, Ok to tour the
Storm Prediction Center. - May 12 - 18: Chasing across the Great Plains (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and
possibly South Dakota and eastern Colorado)
May 19: If we're far north, we'll begin making our way back toward Oklahoma City.
May 20: Drive home to the New Orleans area. - Vehicle - We have booked a Dodge Caravan with full coverage and replacement insurance. The total
for this is $800.00. Each chase member will be responsible for his/her equal share.
This money will be sent to me and will be put together and toward the cost of the rental.
This is also being considered as your "deposit" for the trip. - Hotel - Each night will likely be in a different hotel/motel. We will all be sharing a
room to keep the cost down. If we stick to a $50 - $60 hotel, it's going to be very cheap
financially. Each member will pay for one night and we'll rotate on a nightly basis. If
it's uneven, we'll split the last night. - Fuel - Each member will take turns tanking up the van and we will rotate throughout the trip
keeping as equal as possible. - Food - Each member will be responsible for his/her food and drinks. We will stop at cafes
and restaurants throughout the chase. There will also be an ice chest in the van with
drinks and snacks for days we're on the road.
