Somebody help me out here. I am having trouble understanding the point of this recently passed stimulus package that is supposed to save us all from total economic collapse. I've looked and looked, but I'm not seeing all the jobs that were promised when this package was first suggested and I'm feeling a extremely apprehensive because we all know that time is of the Essenes and we don't have a day to waste and something must be done NOW!! whew....
OK, deep breath.. Now, I want y'all to know that my feelings of insubordination concerning this life saving stimulus deal is not necessarily because it's under Obama's rule. I also rigidly opposed the Bail Out under Bush. No one listened to me then, either. As a matter of fact, I really wish I could change my perspective and jump on the Love Train with all the Obama supporters. Everyone looks to be having so much fun and if there is one thing I do enjoy, it's a good time. But, alas, I must stay at the station and mind the store because I have things to worry about.
My #1 worry right now is, again, the Stimulus Package. When I first heard Obama expounding on this proposal he was emphasizing the need for new jobs and that people were in dire straits, people were suffering. Obama kept mentioning infrastructure work, highway and bridge repair. Now that the package is revealed, I see that only 5% of the billions will go to "infrastructure"! 5% of $825 Billion! Or about $30 billion for the original idea. There's another $40 billion for broadband and electric grid development, airports and clean water projects that are arguably worthwhile priorities and will create or keep jobs. $20 billion for business tax cuts. So, that means only $90 billion out of $825 billion, or about 12 cents of every $1, is for something that can plausibly be considered a growth stimulus.
Where's the rest? I'm reminded of that old '80's Wendy's commercial, but this time it's "Where's the Pork"? Well, you don't have to look hard, because it is everywhere. And you know what, this is the part I'm having a hard time understanding. Why are we just sitting back and allowing ACORN to get Billions of dollars from a package that was presented as an emergency to save all our lives? Somebody explain, please. And millions to re-sod the Mall? I thought our country was failing, would you re-sod your yard right before foreclosure?
Same thing happened back with the original Bail Out, we were told that banks were failing, a depression was looming, and we were all gonna die unless we passed this package. Not a minute to spare, had to do it NOW. Yet, our leaders had time to stuff the bill so full of pork that the amount is now outrageous.
I don't know, I'm just disgusted by the whole deal now. All the unemployment benefits, food stamps, and tax credits, while needed at this moment, are a temporary fix. Next year, I'm not seeing a brighter future. Unless you own a sod farm.
I have decided that I don't want to be stimulated, I want to be satisfied.
