...A COOL AND WET JANUARY ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS...
JANUARY ENDED WETTER THAN NORMAL FOR MOST AREAS AND COOLER THAN
NORMAL ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS. THE MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL
HELPED EASE DROUGHT CONDITIONS WEST OF THE BRAZOS RIVER. COOLER
THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS WERE PREVALENT FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF
THE MONTH. AS A MATTER OF FACT...THE FIRST TWO WEEKS ENDED UP AS
ONE OF THE TOP TWENTY COOLEST PERIODS ON RECORD. TEMPERATURES
REBOUNDED...WITH THE SECOND HALF OF THE MONTH WARMER THAN NORMAL
FOR ALL BUT A FEW DAYS AROUND THE 23RD.
THE OVERALL RAINFALL HELPED COLLEGE STATION END THE MONTH WITH ITS
TOP 7TH RAINFALL TOTAL SINCE RELIABLE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1902.
OVERALL...THREE OF THE FOUR FIRST-ORDER CLIMATE SITES ENDED THE
MONTH WITH ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL. ALTHOUGH THE CITY OF HOUSTON
RECORDED BELOW NORMAL RAINFALL...THE SITE STILL RECORDED OVER 3
INCHES. HERE IS A LIST SHOWING THE RAINFALL AND RANKING FOR EACH
SITE.

THIS HAS BEEN THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW WHEN THE MONTH OF JANUARY
ENDED WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE BELOW NORMAL AT ALL FOUR FIRST-
ORDER CLIMATE SITES. THERE HAVE BEEN STREAKS OF WARMER THAN NORMAL
JANUARYS...AND BELOW NORMAL. IN THE FOLLOWING LIST OF THE MONTHLY
AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY FOR THE 21ST
CENTUARY...NOTE THE VERY WARM PERIOD FROM 2004 TO 2006...AND IN
