This is how it all starts out. We don't want to be in the bulls eye this early out. We just want to be in the picture with cold air near by and a feature to generate moisture.

Boo! I hate warm, stormy Christmases. It seems like I’m turning on the AC on Christmas Eve more than using the fireplace. Hope we end up at least getting cold temps. I don’t HAVE to have snow. I just really really want it.
EWWW...12z GFS keeps us in the 70's for Christmas but just right over in Texas, they stay below freezing for a few days with an ice storm. It doesn't push the front through.

We know how poorly the GFS handles shallow arctic air. I remember it missing placement of surface air over a hundred miles over a less than 24 hour period.
If Xmas time involves arctic air we'll have to see how it plays out
I recall my mom telling about the year it sneauxed in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. Actually it sneauxed on New Year's eve, December 1963, and sneaux on the ground for the Sugar Bowl January 1, 1964 then played outdoors in Tulane Stadium. Per the link below, here in Baton Rouge we did not even get a trace. And again such as Christmas 2004, there are times where New Orleans gets sneaux and others to the north can miss out.
I remember that! I was just a little kid, living in Jackson, MS at the time, but I clearly remember the Jackson paper publishing a photo on the front page, with the headline, "Sugar Bowl Filled With Snow Ice Cream!".
