As someone who literally lives a 7.5' levee across from nearly 50 miles of wetlands north of Grand Isle (with Lake Salvador and Lake Cataoutche between us) slightly west of Lafitte, this "brown water" or "brown ocean" effect is concerning: Models are showing a STRENGTHENING storm upon "landfall" in LA, because there's not much LAND south of NOLA!

I think a min hurricane still not out the question. But rain will still be primary threat not wind. Now just got to see if this goes in east or west of me in Thibodaux so I can see how much I will get.

Yesterday it looked quite possible it would be a minor hurricane at landfall and now it looks like a weak/moderate tropical storm. Is that correct?

Yes but remember models are still not great with intensity. Depends if it slows down and has more time over water. There is not much difference between a 70 mph tropical storm and a 74 mph hurricane. Main threat will be flooding rain not wind.
