I’ve owned Accurite models for years and have gone through 4 because they just stop working after a couple years or so. I thought about getting the AcuRite Atlas but after seeing a few bad reports on them I was afraid of throwing money down the drain yet again so I bit the bullet (felt like a solid gold bullet due to the price) and got the Davis VantagePro2 with the 24-hour fan aspirated radiation shield this morning.
I’m impressed with their accuracy and can’t wait to have 99.9% accurate readings from my back yard. The only thing that won’t be completely accurate will be wind readings since there are lots of trees within 50’-100’ of the most open area but I can live with that since even then it should still be close.
I can’t wait until it comes in and I get it all set up & on Wunderground. I don’t think there are many other Davis stations around me so it should be interesting to see the differences in nearby readings.
Who else owns one of these and how do you like it?

Got it it up and running. I have the pole at 24’ right now but I’m planning on having someone weld three 10.5’ poles together for me so I can have it above the tree height. I currently have two of them bolted together and inside a “sleeve” but I’m not comfortable doing that to three of them since it’s too wobbly like that. I have it built so that I can unscrew a few screws and swing the pole down to the ground in order to maintain/replace if and when I need to in the future.
So so glad I finally have a Davis Vantage Pro2! Finally some accurate readings from my back yard and no more replacing my station every other year.

Mine finally got up and running last weekend, just in time for that big storm system to move through the area. Seems there wasn't quite the energy the NWS was forecasting, as we only got .71" of rain and I only heard one T-storm off in the distance during frontal passage.
My wife got it for me for Christmas. She forgot to order the mounting pole, and while we checked out the local hardware store, I failed to check in the fencing section for appropriate pipe to use. We ordered the Davis mounting pole kit and waited a very long time to get it in. Finally, though, it's up and running.
Still happy to have it up. Hopefully, it lasts longer than the Accurites we've had.
