I worked in corporate communications for over 20 years, most of them at Entergy. I specifically was detailed to staff numerous events while at Entergy requiring communication to the news media, including ice storms, outage events, and even Hurricanes Andrew and George. (Luckily, I left before Katrina.)
I know from experience that giving correct information to the public is vitally important during emergencies.
I also know from being a member of this forum since the WWL days that many of us have rightfully criticized numerous elected officials for poor performance during weather events, including Aaron Broussard, Ray Nagin, Mitch Landrieu, Kathleen Blanco, Bobby Jindal, John Bel Edwards, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
So it’s with that background that I made two posts this afternoon in the Dorian thread and then some of you complained, and thus they were deleted. I don’t remember the exact words, but they were along these lines:
---------------------------------
Why is the guy who says ignore the MSM and only listen to him using an old 5-day cone map with a drawn on Sharpie line to include Alabama to cover for an incorrect tweet from 3 days ago? And did he or any of his staff realize it was against federal law?
-------------------------------------
His advisors are not serving him well or he is completely willfully ignoring what they’re saying if he thinks this old model map helps him. It’s dated Aug 28 and has the caveat that it isn’t to be used as official forecasts to justify a tweet three days later when official NHC forecasts maps issued the day of his tweet showed the storm turning northeast, without Alabama anywhere near the cone.
It’s funny here on the forum when people post old model runs. It’s dangerous when the POTUS does it.
-------------------------------------
I saw a few members say thanks for the unrelated posts being removed. How is this unrelated to Dorian when it is misinformation about Dorian? And when in previous storms, posts about officials such as I listed above, were not deleted from threads about ongoing weather events and forced into separate threads?
Is the official policy of StormCast forums not to post anything critical of any elected officials or just this one? Or is it just majority rule if people cannot accept constructive criticism of politicians they like?
I am not alone in my criticism of this POTUS on this issue. Many meteorologists have called him out as well, saying it is dangerous to knowingly give incorrect data during a hurricane.
I’ve been a member of this forum since WWL days as I said above. And a supporter for many years. I’m just trying to understand why there is a discrepancy in the way posts about elected officials are handled.
