Well, it's definitely looking hazy outside, and it's not just some clouds. On a more serious note, is there any reason the National Weather Service office in Slidell, LA has not mentioned a word about this dust? Do they feel that it's a negligible phenomenon? I would have thought they would at least make a cursory mention, since the visibility would affect aircraft, and the haze could potentially create some health hazards for residents. I have sent an email to my local office to get clarification on why this hasn't been addressed yet.

So, I called the New Orleans NWS office this afternoon to try to get clarification. I actually got a met on the phone. He said that unless the dust was causing obvious health issues he didn't think the office would issue any kind of alert for dust. I'm still not sure why not, since the AQI has been affected by the dust.
