In the I'll Be Damned Dept., NHC is indeed forecasting hurricane strength at landfall. I think it holds true that with all our best technology, intensity is still difficult to predict. I agree with Gris, though, NHC does a fantastic job. This new intensity forecast should put the East Coast on alert, especially SC/NC. Jim Cantore is packing his bags I'll bet along with Stephanie Abrams.

At the end of the day, the meteorologists at the NHC are a group of scientists who love and respect weather and climate and who delight in utilizing their expertise to make a positive difference in the lives of others, even if that difference involves delivering bad news for some. I have never, ever seen a meteorologist at the NHC promoting themselves or showboating. They are among the most underrated entities in America, and we especially on the Gulf Coast are blessed to have them.

The NHC is the only source IMO for hurricane forecasting.... If forecasting doesn't ever get any better than today I will still think so....and will never have any beef over a forecast that doesn't verify well. We are lucky we still have a functioning government agency that benefits us. I may criticize the products put out by our area NWS for inconsistency with other areas, but that's just noise on my part.

I love some of the local Mets....and listen with respect for local forecasting.....but regardless they do not specialize in hurricane forecasting. They know the local minutia of our area for forecasting and that is what I listen and respect local Mets for.

Maybe Mike Seidel will be able to do his "Seidel Slant and Slide" as well.

Man this system is big and immediately grabs attention on satellite. Good thing NHC is sooo good with tracks. I am kinda gettin' the feeling this is the August wake up call a little early. It honestly just looks like trouble to me. Plain n simple. A cat 2 is very reasonable imo. He has just constantly been working hard since yesterday and even before. He is the only player in our region getting ready to ride the Gulfstream. By the way, anybody know if or when the G-IV synoptic jet may fly. I think it may have been discussed elsewhere. Could not be a better time.
