Yep. Generator becomes almost God during these times. I’m on my second Generac NGas . Runs the whole house since 2000. Total game changer.
We built our "new" house in 2008 and built in a Generac natural gas 18kw generator that pretty much powers the entire house. I'm mindful of the load...other than the A/C and fridge, I don't use big appliances like the oven, microwave, washer and dryer, etc. at the same time.
But we get A/C, fridge, all of our lights and electronics...and it's worked like a charm over the years. I get it checked and serviced right before hurricane season every year and we have it set to run in exercise mode once a week.
So we should be all set.
Curious - how many years did you get out of your first Generac before replacing it? Our first is right at 12 years old now. But so far so good.
My first Generac only lasted about three years. Interesting story. Up until I made the commitment to buy mine they all came with an hour meter for maintenance etc. Then they just stopped putting them on the generators as I bought mine. Anyway mine failed and I wanted to know why. It had a defect in the copper coil windings. I then had a Dr friend who was close to a high level engineer at Generac up N. The production run was well underway when they discovered the issue. Then they simply took the hour meters off so you had no proof of how many hours you had on it when it broke prematurely. Ridiculous...always follow the money and it tells the story. They were still really the only game in town when I bought another one though improved. About fifteen years with this one and it had a major corrosion gas leak that cost me $400 and could have been a fire disaster. The corrosion was inside the cabinet also. Doing fine now and I reengineered the fault on the new gas regulator. Very, very important that you change the oil every forty eight hours if it is running constantly during a summer cane hit. The truth is unless you have a liquid cooled or diesel they are simply glorified air cooled lawnmower engines.Period. Oil is cheap. Have plenty on hand and it takes 10 minutes. Do it for all portables also. Hope this helps.
