I’m checking in on everyone! That was brutal and I didn’t even go through the eye. I am in the Tampa Bay Area and Anna Maria Island is underwater. In my 44 years I’ve never seen anything like this

power has been out since 2:30. Please stay safe and I can’t stop thinking about rural little town of Perry, Fl right now!

That surge area has had a prediction of 5-8ft pretty much since the surge maps came out. This would fit exactly into that.

I have a few buddies in St Pete/CW/Tampa. They have been dodged so many times due to an interesting angle and current that sometimes I wonder if they are shocked that the bay filled up this time.

Awful, but still not as bad as it could have been had landfall been just north of them. But yeah, surge seems to be on target unless they have it pegged more than 8?

I agree. I bet tomorrow there will be a better picture of how high the water did get.

I'm shocked at the wind gusts that even got here in the Orlando area with the eye so far away from us. This was indeed a huge storm the reason so why it brought in so much storm surge.
I have my sister, mom and niece that moved to Port Richey a few months ago. My niece just bought a home a couple of months ago right by the water, at ground level. An 8-12 foot storm surge was forecasted for their area. I am sure my niece's house is under water. My sister stayed a few blocks away at her 3 story town home but she went to sleep early tonight so I have not communicated with her but I'm sure she's safe because her room is on the 3rd floor.
I have a cousin that lives right on the water in Ana Maria Island on the Bay side, he's ok because he just built a 3 story home but his parents just moved in right next to him and their home is at ground level, as of a few hours ago the water was about to enter their home.

I do vacation rental management on AMI and the pictures coming in are unreal. Law enforcement has the causeway going out to the blocked and you can’t get on or off and the causeway is underwater too with a sailboat in the middle of the road. Tomorrow morning Is going to be an eye opener.

It could have been way worse for many here but still incredibly sad. I hate when any of us in any state along the coasts have to go through this.
