My brother lives in Largo, FL. He will ride it out in the Hampton Inn right by his house just to be safe. No water issues on the ridge there - 40 feet elevation or so.

Remember the tsunami like wall of water surge seen/captured on the NASA Michoud facility webcams that was associated with Katrina along the intracostal waterway? The massive surge/wall of water was way over the levee protection system along the waterway. It then proceded to smash into the industrial canal causing a overtopping at the industrial canal in Gentilly. That was all from the GOM along with the 50-60 foot waves coming ashore on top of the tidal surge. This Milton thing will be very similar for Tampa Bay. And Tampa Bay does not have the levees even New Orleans had back in 2005! They (Tampa Bay) I fear are in for a very surprising but rude awakening even though Milton is less intense from its peak intensity. It is eerily a very similar intensity situation where the mass of water is already built up over time. The time it takes for the water mass/volume to lessen takes a lot more time to do so then the winds. Stay tuned Tampa Bay folks.

And Tampa general hospital, a trauma 4 facility I might add, sits right smack on a peninsula inside Tampa Bay, being protected by a portable ingenious short wall of 10 foot height. I really dont see that wall standing up to the forces of the water they are going to see. Surge maybe, but the sudden forces of the water? I just dont see it helping.

The Saturday evening before Katrina made landfall I will never forget a news weather reporter reporting live from Gulf Shores Alabama from a VAN showing the height of the waves 50-60 feet ahead of Katrina about 200 miles in width headed towards the coast. I knew at that time all of that water had to landfall some where. That was my signal to evacuate. Never will I forget that live report. NEVER!

The lower barometric pressure allowing for such greater surge combined with the CAT5 winds having already created the wave heights on top of the surge is just absurd!
