GRLevel 3 has widely become known as "THE" radar application for storm chasers and weather enthusiasts across the country. I was part of the original GRLevel3 beta test team many, many years ago and still use it today in my everyday tool line up.
GRLevel3 uses the free Nexrad data from the NWS. GRLevel2 offers more radar tilts than level 3 data, however you must have a subscription to access the level 2 data. A couple of sites who offer subscriptions are allisonhouse.com and michiganwxsystem.com. GRLevel2AE also requires a subscription to the level 2 data, but offers even more additional tools requiring you have a pretty nifty video driver on your computer. The outstanding graphics of GR2AE allows you to analyze a storm in virtual 3D.
Storm reports, attributes, and a highly customizable environment make GRLevel3 really worth the purchase price of $79.95.

Just started the trial for GR2Analyst... you don't need a subscription anymore for level 2 data (Though if you want to, get the storm hunter subscription from Allison House). Coming from GRLevel3, I wasn't sure if I would want to pull the trigger on this, I mean why would I want or need a volume renderer?
Well.. HOLY CRAP, once this trial is up I'm definitely buying it.
That is some seriously impressive graphics coming out of there. That's storm porn right there. Will be interesting to see how/what it can do with tropical weather as well.

Does anyone have any tips or advice or anything that will help with using the GRLevel3? I started the 21 day free trial and just trying to learn about it and figure it out before my free trial is up. Thanks in advance for anything that anyone could offer!!

Hmm, I know me and SkySummit are familiar with GRLevel3, any specific questions?

Nothing specific! Just trying to figure it out and see if I like it before I purchase it. I talked to Sky already and he had giving me some tips on placefiles so I have that figured out, I was just wondering if there are any other features and tricks with it. Also what placefiles do ya'll recommend?

There are so many things you can do. Basically, if you want to, there's likely a way you can. Most placefiles are free, but if you're willing to pay a little bit, you can also get live lightning data, storm paths, etc.
Although I do add and delete placefiles from time to time, here are the ones that I seem to keep all the time. They are all free. If you want some, I'll check to see where I'm getting them from.
Also with color tables, you can change the radar colors however you wish either by making your own in a text file or using some of the MANY free tables available on the web. Just search for GR3 color tables. Or if you like one we use, we can send it to you. Same with logos...many free ones out there if you want to add a logo.
Here's my list of placefiles (the left hand column of check marks makes it active. The right hand column of check marks makes it an underlay. For instance, satellite imagery showing up under the radar:

I have decided to get GRLevelX but am now considering which one to get. GrLevel 3 or GRL Analyst as both seem to have their advantages. I like the 3D of Analyst but the price is important as well. Before I spend 250 bucks I want to make sure. I like GRLevel 3 Tracking lines as well as the information in the Storm attributes box.. Any thoughts or imput would be welcome to help me make this decision.
