Been following tropical systems for a few years now. About 23 years to be exact. And I always have said to follow the overall shape of the system to understand its future direction. When I heard John Hope mention this on TWC one day I almost fell off my sofa.

GFS looks the same place at landfall.

Well, we are an hour and 15 minutes away from morning! 😉😉

One thing of note, with regard to wobble watching, the center will move in the direction of the strongest convection, in this case it’s the N-NE. Wobbles will have to be watched very closely as it equates to landfall shifts in a larger scale at this point in time. If those eyewall bursts are occurring in the N-NE quadrant, that’s on the edge of high pressure where the greatest convergence is occurring. At this point, Lafayette is still very much in the crosshairs IMHO, if it continues, it may be further east. Don’t sleep on it tomorrow, we’ll all have to be on our toes. Thankfully any shifts will equate to less east as time draws on as it gets closer to the coast, but if it continues to slow in forward speed the shifts will be more magnified as the high to the east weakens and pulls out.

Delta should turn northward on
Friday as it moves on the western side of a mid-tropospheric high
pressure area. Later on Friday, a 500-mb shortwave trough over the
southern United States is likely to cause the tropical cyclone to
turn north-northeastward and cross the northern Gulf of Mexico
coast.
