We got cable and internet back this evening. Hoping that we have enough data saved up from ATT so that I won't be hammered. I'm sorry, but I have to reiterate exactly how cool it was to be in the eye. I even got a shout out from iCyclone for my first experience. 😂🤣😂🍻
I live in Cut Off and it was my first time experiencing the eye for REAL lol. Very cool and thank goodness for the break! Was able to go out and pick up some of the flying debris near the house before the 2nd half started. Towards the end of round 2, if you looked toward the west, you could actually see sunlight!
Hurricane Andrew even though it technically hit around Morgan City or a little west of there, I was living in northern Terrebonne parish (Schriever), the northern eyewall scraped us. But it was night time and we had winds over 100 mph so we didn’t dare go outside. Betsy was way before I was born but eye went directly over Thibodaux, and my mom said she went outside and got to experience it. Could see the stars and everything. Betsy went right up Bayou Lafourche and Thibodaux got 130 mph winds. But for Zeta we barely had tropical storm force winds. It was the angle it went in. Just a little further west into Morgan city for zeta, would of put me in the dangerous part. I definitely didn’t want to deal with damage but was really thinking I would experience a bit more with Zeta wind wise and was a little bummed.
I was lucky and did very well with no damage in the storm. My guess is my neighborhood saw 70-80 mph winds for about an hour with a few gusts in the 90's. I know we got the eye, and as Zak said, it was a "dirty eye." I could see the sun glinting off the SE eye wall and feel it when it passed over. But there were gusts in variable directions when it was overhead. I'd like to see a detail of its path over New Orleans if anyone has a link.
I was happily surprised at how quick we got power and internet back. With the downed trees and snapped poles, I thought it would be a week. We got power back on Friday afternoon and internet on Saturday morning.
Big mess down here. Power restored late Friday night. Not much damage to my house, but many others around me not as fortunate. Still no cable. Almost finished cleaning up big mess left by the wind and the water, not much came in this time.
I finally got my power back here in west Biloxi yesterday afternoon and I'm glad to get it back. The hurricane was bad in my neighborhood but my property and myself made out good.
The cooler weather was a plus; late Wednesday night into earlyThursday morning was uncomfortable inside the house but the rest of the week was bearable with the cooler temperatures outside. It's nice to have my quiet neighborhood again without the sound of generators running all day.
