Just in case anyone missed it, an excerpt from tonight's NWS discussion:
Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service New Orleans LA 515 PM CDT Mon Mar 28 2022
With all of this concern is increasing a rather impressive wind event with the squall line. The area that looks like has the highest potential will be along and north of the I 10/12 corridor through coastal MS. However, let us point out that even though damaging winds are the primary concern and could be significant tornadoes can not be ruled out. As with almost any squall-line and QLCS any surges and or breaks in the line will have the potential to drop quickly developing and dissipating tornadoes with little lead time. Even though tornadoes are possible the concern is wind and lets be absolutely clear here, straight line winds can be every bit as damaging if not worse as it could impact a much larger area and extreme winds are still extreme winds. Make sure your WEA is turned on on your cell phone even though it will not go off for all severe thunderstorms it will alarm if there is the potential for winds of 80 mph or greater.
"Let's work the problem, people; don't make things worse by guessing!"
Franklin WWL tv thinks this will be a different system with the worst weather I’m Mississippi. We’ll see shortly.
No mention really of an extreme weather threat as mentioned in the NWS discussion. These kind of wind events seem to me to be getting more numerous. I may start to consider those automatic shutters that you can press a button and have them roll on down like you have. Are they a ton of money?

50+ mph non-storm winds. Lovely! The one bad thing about working from home is if the power goes out, I either don’t get paid, have to make up the lost time, or take PTO. The lights flickered all day for the last event with 35mph winds. This one should be interesting.

In the point-and-click forecast for me the simple wording "possibly severe" is the same as last week's event...obviously the graphic and details of the risk are different
New data suggests non thunderstorm winds up to 60mph now.
Also, the 00z NAM soundings suggest we may be seeing the hatched area expand into the south shore.
Well I may get to confirm my generator will transfer power.....
Still I am glad, on the northshore at least, most large trees have only just begin to bud out and they don't have full leaves yet....should help limit power issues a bit.

Yeah; I just like to see more consistency among the NWS forecasts and some local meteorologists. NWS forecast seems rather ominous to me in terms of this being a wind event; Mssr. Franklin made little mention of it. He may be seeing something more locally than the NWS is not? I don't want to criticize the man after the awesome job he did last week under some very trying circumstances.

Not cheap. The electric powered ones are even more. That said, they are another level of comfort and safety. CoolVue is where I send people. LAS is a ridiculous rip off and for some reason they prey on older people. CoolVue came measured my windows and doors and then custom built them at their shop in Kenner. They let me contract their best installer on the weekends and we became friends. I’m tool savvy and we both put them in. Saved lots on labor. Todd has since done work for friends and family. Meticulous. I recommend the manual roll down as it is not hard to wind them. I can get the whole house locked down in 3 minutes. We drop them every overnight severe threat. They also cut down most of the wind roar during storms. We also have a stucco house. Was really impressed with the noise attenuation. We have them for every opening on the house including the front door. You roll that one down from the front porch with a special tool. Ironically I blew off all the tornado alerts in 2017 and could not get them down in time when the Elmwood tornado came through the backyard. That will never happen again. Was pissed at myself. We really like the shutters but nobody will escape damage from an F3 in your yard. The shutters also provide disaster security and keep the house cooler when down and on generator power. Drowns out the generator noises also. Hope this helps.
