[H]HURRICANE MILTON - GULF OF MEXICO

Sorry if this has been discussed but just catching up today. I’ve often said that the most powerful storms are often the only system around including even cloud cover being hundreds of miles away. Look at this thing! It seems to be sucking up the moisture and energy along its associated trough! This fascinates me. I’m sure we are seeing some dynamics that are not totally understood. So much for my major “cloudless” environment theory. Tampa area is in true trouble I’m afraid and only how much is the question.

All I know is I am getting sick of the stupidity being shared on social media.

Just wanted to say, Kissimmee checking in here. We just went under a Cat 1 Hurricane Warning. That is just the facts. I know there is a lot of panic regarding the Peninsula, but a Cat 1 is manageable when prepared and in a proper structure. There won't be storm surge here and the roads are a mess. For those of us that can hunker down without risking life, I am choosing to keep the roads available to others that are under mandatory evacs.

I use to live in Brooksville, Fl. My old neighbor made a post on Facebook about "real floridans stay for these hurricanes you chickens run" has me upset. He lives in a double wide mobile home surrounded by tall trees. I told him the seriousness about this and he keeps saying it's going south of Tampa he'll just get a little rain. Can't argue with stubborn, I guess.

It appears the NHC website has crashed.

Every time. I was called out for evacuating during Ida; my neighbors ended up with a 90 foot pine in their kitchen. I’m sure we all have similar stories. If I’m privileged enough to be able to evacuate, I do so if only to take myself out the post-storm needs equation. n.b.: I’m largely unfamiliar with Central Florida, so I mean no slight to any members choosing to stay there.
